Elim Lodge and the Environment

We live in one of the most beautiful and undeveloped areas of England. Like all areas, however, it is under threat, and we want to preserve it for future generations, whilst ensuring continued sustainable communities. To this end, we are active in the Cumbria Green Business Forum www.cgbf.co.uk This was set up by a group of us to provide local businesses with access to information, to share environmental best practice, and lobby for improvements in local infrastructure and policies. Elim Lodge's environmental performance has been audited by the Green Tourism Business Scheme, achieving a Silver award, and we are proud to be Associate Fundraisers for the Tourism and Conservation Partnership, raising funds to aid conservation.

ELIM LODGE ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

We believe that we have a responsibility to minimise the effect that we have on the environment in general, and the Lake District in particular. We pledge to continue to improve our own practices, and encourage our guests to enjoy the area, without damaging it. To this end, we aim to:

  1. Reduce our energy requirement by use of low energy bulbs, timers on heating, hot water and external lighting, appropriate kettles, and turning off equipment on standby. We ask our guests to turn off televisions, lights and phone chargers when not in use.
  2. Recycle paper, glass, cans and garden waste, and other items as facilities become available. Our guests can help by putting newspapers, bottles, cans and leaflets alongside the bins in the room.
  3. Provide information for guests to travel to Elim Lodge by train and coach, and to get around the Lakes by bus, boat and cycle.
  4. Conserve water where practical, by use of lower toilet flush volumes, towel replacement policy, and garden watering. from rainwater
  5. Purchase locally and responsibly where appropriate
